Last week, former New York mayor and multi-billionaire Michael Bloomberg indicated that he might run as an independent for the presidency in November. Whether he has a real chance of winning mostly depends on the two major parties’ nominations, but there may be a slim opening. However, in the event that he did win, it’s unlikely Bloomberg would solve the U.S. economy’s problems. In fact, he might make them worse… Bloomberg Knows Best (According to Bloomberg!) Bloomberg’s attraction is obvious at a time when Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are making considerable progress in the polls. He is anti-populist, offering the opposite of ...
Natural gas is a tricky thing – besides its propensity to blow up, it also requires a change in state (from gas to liquid) for trans-oceanic transport. The capital outlay for liquefaction and gasification terminals is significant as well as time consuming. Over 25 years ago, when the natural gas market was tight, one country invested so extensively in the infrastructure to extract, convert, and ship natural gas that it is now the leading exporter of liquefied natural gas. That country is Qatar. Qatar not only leads the world in exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG), but is also the foremost expert in the liquefaction process. While energ...
For over four years, gold and silver have been in a cyclical bear market, within a larger secular bull trend. A number of times since silver’s May 2011 high at just below $50, they have swooned, built a base that should have held, yet dropped again. With silver at this writing, printing the lowest close since 2009, the few remaining bulls can be excused – as we often say – for “either being scared out or worn out”. The best way to make significant money with defined risk is to spot an investment vehicle that is out of favor, trading below production cost, moving into longer term deficit, yet needed and desired...
Video Length: 00:04:44 ? Those interested in silver know that for market insight and advice they need look no further than me. I caught up with the Investing News Network at last week’s Vancouver Resource Investment Conference (VRIC), and while i did share some insight on silver (such as his number one reason for being bullish on the metal), i also spent some time talking about my new venture: Lemuria Royalties. As yet few details have been released about Lemuria, i was able to talk a little about why i choose now to get into the royalties business and how the company will work. And for those skeptical that i’ll be successful in this...

Anything I’ve ever done that ultimately was worthwhile… initially scared me to death. – Betty Bender They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this chart is probably worth a lot more. It illustrates how the BLS has been lying through its teeth over the past seven years. Then again anyone with a grain of common sense could figure out that the retarded methodology the BLS employs is bound to create the illusion that all is well. They purposely discount individuals that have stopped looking for work in coming up with their unemployment numbers. Hence, the 5% figure is not an accurate reflection of the landscape. The c...
Book enthusiasts catapulted John Berendt’s classic Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to iconic status. The nonfiction-novel hybrid spent 216 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, longer than any book before or since, that is, unless you include the Bible. With estimated annual sales of 100 million, lifetime sales of the Good Book exceed five billion. Berendt’s second book may not have matched the success of Garden, but the title was unquestionably inspired by the best seller of all time. The City of Falling Angels dives into a different brand of decadence, that of the city of Venice. What few appreciate is the term ‘fallen ...
January witnessed 13 ETF launches along with the closure of four ETFs and one ETN, putting the new count at 1,853 (1,653 ETFs and 200 ETNs). The net increase of eight might seem like a slow pace of product introductions, but it is much better than a year ago when the 23 closures swamped the 13 launches.Assets fell 4.5% during January but remain above the $2 trillion mark for now.The quantity of actively managed ETFs dropped from 137 to 134, yet assets grew 4.3%. If 2015 was the year of currency hedging, then 2016 could be the year of “managed” currency hedging. On a single day in January, two firms introduced seven next-generation cur...
Swedes are saving more than ever in their newly created (voluntary) cashless environment. That was not supposed to be how it works. They should be saving less and spending more because the banks are charging them interest. That is the goal of negative interest rates, to force people to spend more so that inflation will bump off zero. But here is the flaw in that reasoning. The fees the banks charge retail customers are like a tax. They make the Swedes feel poorer in their accounts, not richer. So the Swedes do what I predicted. They save more to make up for the shortfall. They still don’t want to hide money under the mattress, risking t...
