The US Dollar/Yen is facing a trio of potential support lines at this time with few people bullish the US$/Yen at Stocktwits. What happens at this potential support zone, could well impact the Risk On trade from now until year end. The trend in the US$/Yen remains down for the past few months, as the YEN has been stronger than the US$. The US$/YEN remains inside of a steep falling channel over the past 10-months. The bottom of this steep falling channel and two other lines come into play as a support test at (1), as momentum is reaching oversold levels. If support would happen to hold and resistance happens to get taken out at (2), it coul...
One of the most famous baseball seasons in history ended in 1951 with a one-game playoff to see which National League team would play in the Major League World Series. The New York Giants (the forefather of my beloved San Francisco Giants) faced their cross-town rival Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo Grounds for the National League pennant. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Bobby Thomson of the Giants hit a fastball over the fence off pitcher Ralph Branca to win the game. The screaming announcer is ever remembered for repeating, “the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant.” We think another shot “heard around the world” occur...
Repeat Of August 2015/January 2016? The Federal Reserve is once again talking about raising interest rates. With a key labor report due to be released Friday, the markets could react sharply to any news that may increase the odds of a September rate hike. The Fed played a role in both the August 2015 and January 2016 waterfall declines (see below). Therefore, it is prudent to ask: How vulnerable are stocks to another sharp sell-off? How Does The Current Market Compare? The charts below show the two waterfall plunges in stock prices that have taken place over the past year. We can learn something about the present day by comparing August 2016 ...

Last week, as the Fed wrapped up their annual Jackson Hole confab, the markets sold off following suggestions the Fed might just hike rates in September after all. On Monday, the markets rallied to recover a majority of that lost ground keeping the markets confined within the very narrow, low volatility, range that has existed for the last 35-trading days. I discussed in this past weekend’s missive the likely range of outcomes that currently exist. (Charts updated through Monday’s close.) “The weekly full-stochastic indicator as shown in the chart below has issued a ‘sell signal.’ Combined with the volatility index turning up f...

At the current pace of quantitative easing, Japan’s central bank is buying so many bonds that it now has about 24 months left before there are no more bonds left to buy. The BOJ is buying close to $800 billion (USD) of bonds annually. The bank’s QE program is truly gargantuan, and Kuroda made a key speech at Jackson Hole indicating he has no intention of tapering it at all. Gold is extremely well-supported now, by both equity fund and FOREX money managers. Kuroda hinted at Jackson Hole that while he won’t taper QE, he has substantial room to increase the use of his negative rates program. He’s making another key speech next Monday...
