The U.S. stock market remains in a full-blown bull market with President Trump re-energizing the base. The U.S. stock market has temporarily become overbought and is likely due for a pause before the next new impulse wave up resumes. My research indicates… This Bull Market is not over. After this, it will move much higher! Courtesy of TMTF service The chart, displayed below, is an overbought/oversold indicator which when it pushes above +100 or below -100, respectively, the indicator will hit its’ extreme point. The market then respond to it which indicates a change in the market’s trend. This is a breath indicator construct...
Key Points: Markets strongly pricing in the risk of a rate hike from the Fed. Dollar bulls may be disappointed as Fed likely to be cautious on forward guidance. Watch for sharp volatility during the FOMC risk event. The New Zealand Dollar is bracing itself ahead of the U.S. Fed’s FOMC decision but the pair currently remains on a recovery trajectory. In particular, the daily pivot point has proved decisive in containing any further declines and price action has subsequently held around the 0.6931 mark. However, despite a solid NZ current account result of -2.335bn, the pair is still at risk from potential FOMC volatility. The looming Fed int...

Gold prices ended Tuesday’s session down $5.01 but remained within the trading range of the past four days as the majority of market participants opted to remain on the sidelines ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting, where the central bank is expected to hike interest rates. Gold prices are trading slightly higher during the Asian session but the key levels are still holding. Before the market makes a meaningful move, prices will have to either break through the 1210/08 area (the 38.2% retracement of the bullish run from 1122.63 to 1263.84) or drop below the 1193/1 zone (the 50% retracement). Penetrating 1210/08 could provide the...
Gold prices edged lower as the US Dollar recovered from post-NFP losses but remained well within their near-term range. Traders were probably reluctant to commit to significant trend progression ahead of the upcoming FOMC policy announcement. The priced-in probability of a rate hike implied in Fed funds futures stands at 100 percent. This means the increase itself may have limited market-moving potential, putting the spotlight on a revised set of economic and rate path projections as well as a press conference with Chair Yellen. US economic conditions have been relatively stable since the beginning of the year. Furthermore, Fed officials ...
While many have noticed the demise of volatility in the US equity markets – 104 days without a 1% drop, plunge in VIX, record low monthly ranges – it is the most highly speculative and most over-valued companies that appear to be the biggest beneficiaries of peak animal spirits. It has never been cheaper to hedge stocks in the Nasdaq… The great moderation of risk is nearing unprecedented lengths… While expectations of short-term stock volatility is jumping… The Nasdaq 100’s ‘VIX’ has plunged to its lowest on record…indicating investors are anticipating milder fluctuations in the technolog...
The first major economic data of 2017 from China was highly disappointing to expectations of either stability or hopes for actual acceleration. On all counts for the combined January-February period, the big three statistics missed: Industrial Production was 6.3%, Fixed Asset Investment 8.9%, and Retail Sales just 9.5%. For retail sales, the primary avenue for what is supposed to be a “rebalancing” Chinese economy, that was the lowest growth rate in more than a decade, the first time below 10% since the January-February period in 2006. Analysts had been expecting Chinese retail sales to rise either 10.5% or 10.6%, depending on the source ...
S&P 500 The S&P 500 fell a bit during the day on Tuesday, but we still have plenty of support just below. I believe the 2050 level underneath it should be rather supportive, just as the 20-day exponential moving average just underneath that level should be. Because of this, I’m waiting to see a buying opportunity in the form of either a supportive daily close, or perhaps a bounce. The FOMC Statement coming out today of course could have implications in this market, but I believe any type of negative reaction will more than likely end up being a nice buying opportunity. The 2300 level below should be the “basement” on the market ...
It has been just over a year since we last featured an update to our chart that correlates the change in atmospheric carbon dioxide with the relative health of the Earth’s economy. We haven’t been holding back because we didn’t want to share what we were seeing – we were holding back because large El Niño-related wildfires in Indonesia in 2015 flooded the Earth’s atmosphere with extra carbon dioxide, which meant that we couldn’t tell the difference between the additional contribution of CO2 from wildfires from that contributed by productive human activities. But we’re now coming up on when that ...
After opening the day on a cautious note, share markets in India have continued to remain range bound and are trading marginally below the dotted line. Sectoral indices are trading on a mixed note with stocks in the consumer durables sector and stocks in the realty sector leading the gains, while stocks in the IT sector are trading in red.
