Hundreds of billions in private equity and hedge fund money has been raised, and is bursting to be deployed in the market. Companies like Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) with multiple billions of liquidity feel the need to find a home for it – in Apple’s case, possibly buying Disney (NYSE:DIS). Yet interest rates are too low, the market is overvalued and misguided investment is everywhere. The truly wealthy man is he who has liquidity in today’s market – and the patience to hold off investing until prices have collapsed and bargains abound. The late Jean Paul Getty (1892-1976) at one time the world’s richest man, when asked how he became a bill...
Macquarie upgraded several U.S. steel producers, saying that demand for steel should improve, while the recent downturn in the stocks has created a buying opportunity. The firm upgraded AK Steel (AKS) and Steel Dynamics (STLD) to Outperform from Neutral, and it raised its rating on Nucor (NUE) and U.S. Steel (X) to Neutral from Underperform. DEMAND: Based on earnings reports from industrial companies, there is evidence that demand for steel is rebounding, while the increase is “sustainable,” according to Macquarie analyst Aldo Mazzaferro. Well damn. Just when everyone was excited about the prospect of Emmanuel Macron making it to the second round of the French elections where, according to the pollsters who regained a bit of legitimacy on Sunday evening, he’ll swiftly put down the populist uprising spearheaded by Marine Le Pen, SocGen’s Andrew Lapthorne decided to rain on the parade. See, Lapthorne “has no political expertise,” but what he and his team do know is that “the real problem for equities worldwide is one of high valuations, high expectations, yet still lacklustre growth and ever worrying and mounting levels of leverage.” Ain’t that a bitch? TNX – the yield on the 10yr US Treasury note – gained 0.22% last week closing at 22.37 but 14-day RSI remains below its own 20-dma; bearish. The break of support at 23.35 (now resistance) has opened a door for a return to 20.00. The monthly chart below shows how the long-term trend line has turned back the rally in TNX on numerous occasions. However, as the monthly Coppock Curve failed to confirm the 2012 low during the 2016 test of that low we’ve probably seen the low of the +30yr decline in interest rates. Cycles: a convergence of cycle lows is due in late April/ early May. Short-term cycles point to 4/25/17. ...

<< Read Part 4: Angst in America: Disappearing Pensions “The ship of democracy, which has weathered all storms, may sink through the mutiny of those on board.” – Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president of the United States “It is your concern when your neighbor’s wall is on fire.” – Horace “The biggest mistake investors make is to believe that what happened in the recent past is likely to persist. They assume that something that was a good investment in the recent past is still a good investment. Typically, high past returns simply imply that an asset has become more expensive and is a poorer, not better, invest...
In a clear sign that the housing industry is on a firm footing, existing home sales surged to their highest level since Feb 2007 last month. A strong labor market has led to an increase in income levels which is leading to a surge in demand for housing. Home prices are likely to rise as a result, which is a desirable outcome for the housing sector at the moment. Since economic fundamentals remain strong and the labor market only looks stronger, the housing sector is likely to go from strength to strength in the near future. Adding housing stocks to your portfolios at such a time looks like a particularly profitable proposition. Record Sales E...
It has been a while since my last article, simply because we have been busy developing a range of tools for investor and traders to use, but we have now completed renovations to our site and have once again opened our doors to the general public, and that in turn has freed me up to write a bit more regularly. We have added a great many new features of which you can avail yourselves, and I think you are going to like the tools on offer – certainly, we do, and our fine tuning has been paying dividends over the last 3 months. Since gold (GLD ) and silver (SLV) appear to be perched at resistance and are likely to pullback in the near term...
