There’s a new metal in town, and it’s bigger than lithium—and hotter than any other commodity on the market right now. Supply is fantastically tight and set to get phenomenally tighter. Analysts at Macquarie Research project deficits of 885 tonnes of this resource next year, 3,205 in 2019 and 5,340 in 2020. That’s a deficit increase of 503 percent. More importantly, it’s a massive opportunity for first-in investors. The panic over future supply has already broken out. The metal is cobal...
Optimism following the outcome of first-round voting in the French presidential election continues to define currency market price action. The Euro is leading most regional majors upward as updated polls suggest centrist Emmanuel Macron will beat eurosceptic Marine Le Pen by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent in the second round on May 7. The broader markets’ mood is consequently brighter, with the anti-risk Japanese Yen on the defensive. Meanwhile, US Treasury bond yields are marching higher to suggest that the apparent removal of a major threat to market stability will allow for steeper Fed tightening. The hawkish drift in U...

The good news is that General Motors made it out on top in March with the best automotive sales in its industry. Supreme Court Ruling The Supreme court turned away an appeal by General motors on Monday, to block a lot of lawsuits that it is facing. The reason for the lawsuits deal with the company’s faulty ignition switches found on many of the older model vehicles. The ruling stated tha...

“Technically Speaking” is a regular Tuesday commentary updating current market trends and highlighting shorter-term investment strategies, risks, and potential opportunities. I updated the analysis on Saturday discussing the two possible paths of the market this week. “As expected the market did rally last week. As I noted it would...
The probability that a recession has started is virtually nil at the moment, but it’s debatable if low macro risk will deliver robust growth in the preliminary estimate of first-quarter US GDP release that’s due on Friday. Projections are wide ranging for what the Bureau of Economic Analysis will report at the end of the week. On the low end of the spectrum is a 0.5% estimate for Q1 output via the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow model (as of Apr. 18) – a sharp slowdown from the 2.1% increase in last year’s Q4. By contrast, the New York Fed’s 2.7% econometric estimate (Apr. 21) sees a moderate pickup in economic activity. Recent surveys...

Why Is This Event Important: The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) may continue to prepare U.S. household...
