I suspect that the holiday volume will persist into the week. Anytime you have a week where there are only 3.5 trading sessions in total, you can expect that much of Wall Street will take the week off and enjoy an extended vacation. Not me, however, I live for this stufff, so when the market is open, I want to be there for it. And as has been been the trend of late, the market is gapping higher into the open for a fourth consecutive day. The only thing about the gap ups is that each one of them have given up all, or most of its gains before the close. With a low volume week ahead of us, and weakness in the Nasdaq continuing to weigh on ...

“I know nothing! I see nothing! I hear nothing!” So light was Hogan’s Heroes, one could easily forget the sitcom, which debuted September 17, 1965, was set in a Nazi P.O.W. camp. More than any one character, Sergeant Schultz deserves credit for the show’s laughable levity. His gregarious girth, sincere sympathy and wonderful weakness for tempting treats — let’s just say Shultz had anything but steely resolve, convincing affable audiences that war could be whimsical. For the prisoners of the Luftwaffe Staling 13, Schultz made an ideal witness to their eternal escape endeavors. His robustly repeated response, “I know nothing!...
Guggenheim analyst Robert Cihra raised his price target for Tesla shares to $430 and reiterates a Buy rating on the name. The stock closed Monday down $8.99 to $352.62. Early production constraints of its new high-end 100kWh battery packs led to Q2 deliveries of just 22,000, below the analyst’s 23,900 estimate. The bigger news, however, is Monday’s revelation that production of the new Model 3 is on track to start in July, Cihra tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes most thought the target would not be met just a few months ago and he notes the Model 3 represents Tesla’s first car to genuinely launch on sc...
The U.S. returns from holiday today, and markets get re-started on a rather quick foot as later this afternoon brings the release of FOMC meeting minutes from the bank’s rate decision in June. This can be a very pertinent driver as there are some details that markets may be looking for, primarily on the front of balance sheet reduction and how that may go along with the Fed’s rate hike plans to the end of 2018. After that hike in June, the Dollar found support and moved-higher for about two weeks. Then – last week saw an entourage of Central Bankers from some of the largest economies offer comments that created another deluge in USD...
The Q Ratio is a popular method of estimating the fair value of the stock market developed by Nobel Laureate James Tobin. It’s a fairly simple concept, but laborious to calculate. The Q Ratio is the total price of the market divided by the replacement cost of all its companies. Fortunately, the government does the work of accumulating the data for the calculation. The numbers are supplied in the Federal Reserve Z.1 Financial Accounts of the United States of the United States, which is released quarterly. Extrapolating Q The ratio subsequent to the latest Fed data (through 2017 Q1) is based on a subjective process that factors in the m...

The debt securities category will always be the first choice for risk-averse investors because this class of instruments provides a regular income flow at low levels of risk. Income from regular dividends helps to ease the pain caused by plunging stock prices. When considering the safety of capital invested, municipal bond mutual funds are second only to those investing in government securities. In addition, interest income earned from these securities is exempt from federal taxes and in many cases from state taxes as well. Below we share with you three top-ranked municipal bond mutual funds. Each has earned a Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) and...
EUR/USD The EUR/USD pair did very little during the day on Tuesday as Americans would have been gone for Independence Day holiday celebrations. This of course works against liquidity, and therefore the markets didn’t move much. I believe that the 1.13 level underneath should be supportive, as it was previously resistive. I think that a supportive candle could be a nice buying opportunity, perhaps reaching towards the 1.15 level above which is the top of the three-year consolidation that the market has been stuck in. A breakdown below the 1.13 level could send this market looking towards the 1.12 level after that. With this, the market looks...
Leerink analyst Richard Newitter raised his price target for Intuitive Surgical shares to $1,080 and reiterates an Outperform rating on the shares. The maker of da Vinci Surgical Systems closed Monday down $13.71 to $921.66. Following a “deep dive” into his model for the company, the analyst raised his 2017-2020 revenue and earnings estimates. New system product cycles, Sp and X in 2018 and the flexible catheter robotics platform in 2019, have potential to “spark accelerating system placements and to fuel a next leg of growth” into Intuitive Surgical’s out-years, Newitter tells investors in a research note. He no...
