Long-time readers know of Lindsay’s long cycle (points A through M) and that equities should now be in the final basic advance between point I and the secular bull market top at point J. A basic advance is the equivalent of a cyclical bull market. A basic decline is usually the equivalent of a cyclical bear market but may not always reach the arbitrary 20% sell-off used by the media to define such a decline. With point A on 10/10/02, point J is expected sometime between October 2017 (15yrs) and September 2018 (15yrs, 11mo). But that is not what this report is about. This report is about our concerns of a possibly serious market correction ...
The Conference Board’s Employment Trends Index – which forecasts employment for the next 6 months declined with the author’s saying “despite the June decline in the Employment Trends Index, job growth will remain strong in the coming months“. Analyst Opinion of Conference Board’s Employment Index Econintersect evaluates year-over-year change of this index (which is different than the headline view) – as we do with our own employment index. The year-over-year index growth rate declined significantly from last month. However, looking at this index another way – the current rate of growth is about...

When people think about geopolitics, they tend to think about war, as if the two issues were the same. But that is only partly true. Geopolitics is the study of the power of nation states, and war is certainly a determinant of power. But it is only one of many. Things like economics, politics, ideology, and technology work together to form national power, and however useful it may be to learn about any single element, they are inseparable. It’s for this reason that the situation in North Korea is (rightly) seen as a geopolitical problem but the Italian banking crisis (wrongly) is not. Before we begin… At the risk of stating the obvious,...

The Labor Department has been collecting this since 1968, a time when only 13.5% of US employees were part-timers. That number peaked at 20.1% in January ...

So much of general market moves depend on the Fed that when Yellen is speaking to government we all need to pay close attention. (Audio length 00:15:28)...
