The U.K inflation does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon as prices surged to the highest in more than 5 years in September. Consumer prices climbed 3 percent year-on-year from 2.9 percent in August, the Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday in London. This is the fastest pace of increase since April 2012 and same as projected by Investors King Ltd. “The increase in consumer prices is likely to push inflation rate to 3 percent from 2.9 percent recorded in August and keep the Bank of England on track to raise interest rate in November to curb escalating prices,” Investors King team of analysts said in early October. The ...
Opponents of Abe-economics — a policy whose defining characteristic these days is ever more radical monetary experimentation and a creeping but serious deterioration in the public finances — are in despair. Yet again, as in March 2015, the Japanese PM Abe has called a snap election (one year short of a full term with a campaign limited to 3 weeks), this time with the intention of crushing a potential leadership challenge within his party (the LDP) which incidentally could have brought a change in economic policy direction. PM Abe took a gamble. The established opposition party to the LDP, the DPJ, is weak and indeed in meltdown. But ...

Homebuilder sentiment took a sharp turn higher this month, rising from 64 up to 68 and well ahead of consensus expectations for a reading of 64. While the magnitude of the beat seems large, there have been three other reports in the last year where sentiment saw as big or a bigger improvement relative to expectations. As shown in the table below, Present and Future Sales as well as Traffic all increased this month. Future Sales was a big standout to the upside, as it rebounded back to its highest level since 1999 (chart below). On a regional basis, the only region of the country where sentiment declined was out West. Sentiment in the Northeas...
Jet manufacturer Embraer has been doing well as a short this morning, dropping over 5% as of this moment. I’ve mentioned this one frequently on Tastytrade, as it’s one of my 43 shorts, and judging from past performance, I’d say it’s got plenty of more downside potential....
Mistake #1: Only Planning for the Short Term The most successful investors have the ability to see beyond the first few days or weeks and look into how a particular stock or market will behave in the next year or two. This allows them to plant themselves firmly in assets that will accrue in both capital gains and dividend yield over the long run. To gain a big picture view of a stock or market you’re interested in, pull up a daily price chart and observe the current pattern that’s unfolding. Mistake #2: Keep Losing Positions Running Mike Patton, a Forbes contributor and investment analyst, has heard this story dozens of times. And while ...
Platinum was once the most precious of metals. For decades, it traded at a premium to gold. The other platinum group metals – palladium and rhodium – barely registered on investors’ radar screens. Platinum lost its crown to gold in 2015. It was overtaken by the other Platinum Group Metals (PGM) metals in recent weeks. Given that platinum, palladium, and rhodium demand is largely driven by automobile manufacturing and the production of catalytic converters, one of these things is likely true; platinum is currently undervalued, or the other two have gotten ahead of themselves. Which one is the correct assessment will depend on whether the...
To say that the stock market has become a low-volatility game this year is definitely an understatement. For example, it has now been two months since the last time the S&P 500 dropped by 1% or more and according to Ned Davis Research, this is now the longest stretch without even a 3% pullback since the 1990’s. So, my first point on this Tuesday morning is that it is important to recognize that what we’re seeing now isn’t exactly “normal.” Think about it; the stock market has had all kinds of what might normally be viewed as negatives thrown at it in 2017 including failures in Washington, political scandals, rate hikes, somethin...
Netflix Inc. (NFLX) released Q3 earnings yesterday, that had mixed results compared to analyst expectations but still gave shares a nice pop in the aftermarket on Monday. The company announced 29 cents per share in earnings on $2.98 billion in revenue while analysts were looking for $2.97 billion. What really impressed investors is the fact that they were able to add 5.3 million new subscribers in the quarter. They also projected that they will add 4.4 million new subscribers, slightly lower than estimates at 4.5 million. CEO Comments “We are growing nicely across the world and are on track to exceed $11 billion in revenue in 2017. Interne...
